Devotional Reading: “You know that afterward, when he wanted his father’s blessing, he was the rejected. It was too late for repentance, even though he begged with bitter tears. Hebrews 12:17 NLT

When we’re desperate, we tend to make impulsive decisions that may be good or bad, each with consequences. Esau allowed his quest to satisfy his immediate need for food to truncate his destiny. He downplayed the importance of his birthright as the firstborn which was a generational blessing.

The truth is, a five-minute pleasure can destroy a glorious future; it can truncate God’s purpose for one’s life. So, before you flippantly make that decision, think about it. Seek counsel, pray, ask questions to gain clarity. To make better decisions, you must manage your emotions.

The Bible is replete with examples of people that made bad decisions in the spur of the moment – King Saul, Rehoboam, Judas Iscariot, Adam and Eve, Ananias and Sapphira, Gehazi, Achan. They didn’t process the implications of their actions before taking them. If we will pause and reflect on the impending consequences of our actions, then we will not only save ourselves but others too.

Prayer and Confession
Father Lord, teach me how to manage my emotions in other to avoid making wrong decisions. Help me to yield to the Holy Spirit’s leading.

Random Bible verse

Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
